Fullness of Life

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10 What is the fullness of life? How do we have abundant life? Abundant life is only possible when we acknowledge and submit to the authority of Jesus Christ. He is the source of all truth. Jesus is the light of the world. Jesus is eternal life. Submitting to the Lordship of Jesus Christ gives us freedom. Jesus came to set captives free. He came to liberate the sinner. Whoever He sets free is free indeed! The freedom that results from our submission is life-changing. It allows us to choose to live for the One worthy of our devotion. It is of great value to each and every person. It is that freedom that is attractive, compelling, and unmistakable. Are you living free? To summarize: Fullness of life is only found by those fully submitted to the authority of Jesus Christ. The resulting freedom becomes the light that draws all men to Jesus Christ, the One who rais...

The Roles of Christ (as explained by Mark Driscoll)

I've been reading a book by Mark Driscoll called Vintage Jesus. The chapters are titled things like "Is Jesus the only God?", "How Human was Jesus?", and "Why did Jesus come to earth?". It is Driscoll's attempt at elaborating on who Jesus was as God and as man as well as what His ministry was about and what the Scripture that are yet to be fulfilled until His return. I'm enjoying it so far as I've really had a desire recently to learn more about the life, both earthly and eternal aspects, of Jesus Christ. At the end of each chapter, Driscoll answers common questions that are asked dealing with that specific aspect of Christ to give us all additional resources to contend for the faith. In the last chapter that I read, Driscoll answers the question "why did Jesus come to earth?" by splitting Christ's ministry into three primary roles. I found his thoughts particularly interesting and wanted to share. The three roles that ...

Walking Like Christ

If I could only choose one book of the Bible and vote it "Most Convicting" I just might choose 1 John. I have been studying 1 John for a couple of weeks now, and I'm almost half way through chapter 2! :) John's pattern so far has been alternating between statements of light and statements of darkness. So far, my study has caused me to pause several times and consider how my life "stacks up" when compared to John's clear and frank approach to the Christian life. This morning, 1 John 2:6 really stood out to me. It reads: whoever says he abides in Him ought to walk in the same way in which He walked. How did Christ walk? As I reflected on the life of Jesus as told in the Gospels, a lot of events came to my mind. Often, I think Christians have a tendency to view Jesus as compassionate and gentle while forgetting the passion and aggression that He displayed at times. He made a whip and drove the vendors out of the temple. He spoke with adulterers, a...

God's Faithfulness in Action

Since I got back from this recent underway period, I've felt like a lot of truth has been allowed to simmer. I've had great periods of prayer just baring my heart to God. I've had moments of clarity hearing God speak the answers to me in His perfect way. I haven't had many intense times in the Word like I have been used to, but God has brought verses to my mind throughout the day and has shown me insight into His Word. I guess I can summarize it as a time of getting to know God and especially getting to know my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As I consider that all things are made through Christ and nothing that was made was not made through Him, I've noticed how I have seen God in so many sources recently. I've come to a deeper appreciation for the way God created everything to be and I'm starting to see people, creation, and experiences in light of their perfect design rather than as the visible reality of brokenness and decay resulting from sin. There...
